Edie Eckman - crochet

IMG_6539

Following on from Jan Eaton's ace crochet book, I borrowed this book by Edie Eckman from the library. It's in such popular demand that I couldn't get an extension and only had time to try a few out (I had actually been waiting 3 months to loan this copy!). I'm so happy with them, they were really fun and there is some great extra reading in the book apart from the patterns. The book is so delicious I wanted to photocopy the whole thing! EDIT: I probably should have added that I actually have this book on order, which my Mum has very lovingly bought for me. Ignorance is not bliss, so I am on the hunt to find out what is legal for photocopying copyrighted material in Australia. I'll get back to you on that.

I'm new to crochet and have Edie's book and just love it too, but copying any part of any currently copyrighted work without permission is not legal, at least in the U.S. How are these authors we love going to keep making enough to encourage their continued work if everyone copies their books instead of buying a copy for themselves. It's just like illegal music downloads or stealing a term paper.

RE: Anonymous
Checking online legal sources and with the library about this particular book, it seems photocopying 10% or a one chapter for personal use only, in Australia is permitted. I certainly don't want to discourage the fantastic work of people like Edie Eckman.
I'm excitedly waiting for this book to arrive in the post and have put the copies I made in the recycling. Happy crocheting everybody.

Bec, I love the first picture! Was it very tricky? I think I am drawn to the flower-y snowflake-y types of patterns, they are so delicate and lovely. Thanks for listing the sources of your crochet-y goodness :)
