209 - marigold

209 - marigold, originally uploaded by things to make and do.

Let's make 7 has become let's make 6 for me. It's been great though, thanks Amy and Kate. This block was the trickiest, don't look to close, or count the petals! Hope you've had a wonderful weekend!

Pillow talk swap

I'm inspired - Pillow talk swap
I'm so excited to be part of the pillow talk swap, hosted by the lovely Heather. I'll find out my swap partner on the 5th of Feb, I'm so excited, I know I already said it, but I am! It's going to be awesome. Above is a mosaic of flickr faves as inspiration.

65 - Patriotic Sunburst

Not quite to the pattern, I ran out of white, oops! Also, not particularly patriotic, oh well, I'm a bit ifie about Australia Day anyway (EDIT: Blair said I should probably explain this further, so basically, I love being Australian and think it is wonderful to celebrate this great country, but the 26th of January is the day the first fleet arrived and hoisted a flag as a proclamation of British sovereignty over Australia, so I just don't think this is a good date to do it, that's all). Yay for happy bright colours, I needed a bit of a pick-me-up today.

Happy Birthday Blair

I love you xx

I adore fabric. I am especially in love with my new vintage fabric stash, a Christmas gift from my sister Erica (thanks Erica).

A new(born) dress for Beatrice

Newborn dress Newborn dress (back)
Newborn dress, originally uploaded by things to make and do.

My cousin and his wife had a little baby girl yesterday, welcome into the world Bea and congratulations Luke and Em!
I had crocheted this ripple blanket, but I wanted to make something a bit 'girlie'. Ofcourse me being me, I decided I wanted to do this about 2 hours before going to visit, hmm, when will I learn? Anyhoo, above is the result.
I quickly drew up a pattern with the aid of a newbornish sized teddy bear, found some cute pink fabric from my stash (also it has bee's on it which I love) cut it, sewed it, pressed it and sewed it some more! It's reversible and can work as a top when she grows out of it as a dress. Yay, now I want to make some more!

Quilt then bind

Patchwork quilt working
I've finally got my act together and finished the quilting on my first patchwork quilt. I started it in August 08, eek! I did this class at Frangipani Fabrics, I would absolutely recommend it if you want to learn the basics of quilting (and you live in Hobart!)
I got the guilts about all the new projects I'd like to start and decided I still hadn't really fulfilled my promise to finish off some of the oldies. Now all I need to do is bind the sucker. I found this Heather Bailey tutorial which looks quite good, see you on the other side.

Happy 1st birthday boy!

January 10, 2010

The first birthday approacheth

The Boy turns one on Tuesday, can you believe it!? I certainly can't.
We had a very small gathering for a slice of cake yesterday. I don't know what I was thinking, trying to ice a cake in such heat! A number 1 for the 1 year old and ladybugs to boot! Thanks women's weekly, you never let me down.
I had fun with my new stamps too, I used them to make a paper bunting. There are so many things I've been meaning to tell you about, including my new stamps, cool vintage fabric stash from Erica, progress with let's make 7 and my ergobaby carrier. I will get right on to it!

My second block as part of Let's make 7 - arcadia. I'm not thrilled with the outcome (it's a bit misshapen), but I feel as though I am learning heaps, so I'm very happy about that!

In love with... Blair

Yesterday was our 5 year wedding anniversary (happy anniversary Blair xx). These last 5 years have been wonderful, filled with so many happy memories.
We celebrated by driving out to the peninsular, going for a long walk on the beach, eating woodfired pizza (fifth year = wood, this is about as close as we get to giving each other anniversary gifts!) and then picking some berries and cherries at the Sorrel fruit farm. It was a beautiful day and makes me feel so incredibly lucky and loved. The slight sunburn and berry stained fingers will fade, but the memories will not.
